Internet Explorer

You can specify the font sizes, styles and colours, and foreground and background colours of web pages displayed on your computer screen, even if the author of the web page has already specified these.

The colour used to indicate links in web pages, or a special colour for links that is used only when the mouse passes over the link can also be set. This is useful if you have low vision, need larger fonts, or need high-contrast colours.

You can set Internet Explorer to use the colours and fonts you specify, your default Windows colours and fonts, or the settings you set in your own style sheet.

Text on this website is easily resizable using your web browser's own controls. Additionally, the body text is set to be relative to your browser's default text size, to increase the chance that it will be comfortably legible.

If you feel the text size is not ideal, your browser can be configured to set a comfortable text size. If you require text to be larger, use the text size controls built into your web-browser.

To access these controls, perform the following actions:
  • Select 'View' from the menu bar at the top of your browser
  • Move down the menu box, until you reach the option labelled 'Text Size'.
  • A further menu will appear from which you can select the text size you require.

Firefox

To use a High Contrast theme, go to Start Menu > Control Panel > Accessibility Options > Display and check the Use High Contrast option preference. If you need to override font or page colours, this can be achieved by selecting Options from the Tools menu. To override the colours defined by web pages, uncheck the Allow pages to choose their own colours, instead of my selections above option preference.

You can also specify which fonts and font sizes are used to display web pages in your browser. The text size can be increased or decreased by selecting Text Size from the View menu:
  • Select ‘View’ from the menu bar at the top of your browser
  • Move down the menu box until you reach the option labelled ‘Text Size’
  • A further menu will appear from which you can increase or decrease the size of your text.
  • Repeat the above steps to increase or decrease the size further.
The following keyboard shortcuts can also be used to control text size:
  • Press CtrlCmd and + to increase the text size. This zooms the text to 120% of its original size, then 150%, 200%, 300%, 450%, 675%, 1013%, and 1519%; or
  • Press CtrlCmd and - to decrease the text size. This zooms the text to 90% of its original size, then 50%, 33%, 22%, 15%, 10%, 7%, 4%, 3%, 2%, and 1%; or
  • Press CtrlCmd and 0 to reset the text size to the web page's default size.
